Abstract

Introduction: Public perception towardsoral health and oral hygiene practices plays an imperative role in planning dental care by Dental Professionals.

Aim: To study and compare perception towards oral De ee ere attending outreach dental programsin rural areas wad nagar.

Materials and Method: Cross Sectional survey was conducted on patients aged is os 1 yous qi caxcauded OR (oual comremekdenkulpucgaiece Rear ANAL wae ODI conducted by Public Health Dentistry Department, .T.S Dental College, Muradnagar. 543 patients with participatory consent on explaining the purpose of study were recruited by convenient sampling method. Data was recorded in a pretested, validated, structured, close ended questionnaire through interview by 3 calibrated interviewers. The questionnaire included variables onsocio demography, perception towards oral health and oral hygiene practices. Data was analysed by SPSS 18.0. Chi square test (p value <0> at 95%CI as significant) analysed the association between variables.

Results: Predominant perceptions were tooth extraction as the only remedy for painful tooth, Followed TB acebyiableedingseein of wipesgums as Granormal Rel: while GEL) OOL) tooth wed brushing wed Hepesin 68%rnctcesand 65%. of DOI) patients. Aes found between age group and level of education. Conclusion: This study shows false public perception towards oral health and oral hygiene practices more noticeable in old erage, illiterate and low socioeconomic class. Interventions to alleviate false perception to wards oral health among public needs to be considered or narrowing the effort andeffect gapin oral health promotion.
